Non-WMO research
If your research does not fall under the scope of the WMO then it does not have to be reviewed by an accredited MREC or the CCMO. However, there may be rules which have to be taken into account. Below you can find some examples of the forms of non-WMO research. Does your research not fall under the scope of the WMO? Then ask your own institution about the local policy and the applied procedures. Multiple frameworks for non-WMO research exist.
Non-WMO research review frameworks
A non-WMO review framework can be applicable depending on the type of non-WMO research.
An example is the Toetsingskader voor medisch-wetenschappelijk niet-WMO-plichtig onderzoek (in Dutch) that has been developed as part of a program from the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. This review framework has been written for medical research, including research with patient and/or personal data and/or human tissue for which no other (legal) framework is applicable. It aims for a uniform and unambiguous review of all non-WMO research in The Netherlands.
Another example is the DCRF review framework for non-WMO research with a medicinal product initiated and/or finances by pharmaceutical companies.
